Panther EyesNEWS FROM THE PRINCIPAL
 Panther Eyes
 Panther Parents,
It has been a great first week of school.  The students have jumped right in and are doing a terrific job.  I cannot remember having a smoother start to the school year!
I have received a couple of phone calls about the athletic drop off in the morning.  The largest concern is the speed at which parents are driving through the parking lot.  Please remember that students will be walking across the parking lot, and it is always the best practice to slow down.  The morning drop off has been going great!  I don't know if it is because we have fewer cars, or if it is because of the light that allows cars to move faster.  Either way, let's keep it going!
This coming week is the last week to request a schedule change.  Many of the electives are filling up, so get it in quickly.  Please be understanding if we tell you that a course is full.  We staffed based on the information we received at registration and we will not over fill classes.  Requests for teacher change must be accompanied by a reason.  Prior to making a teacher change, parents must meet with the current teacher and try to work out the situation.  From that point, parents will need to meet with a counselor.
Make sure that you check out the Evans Events.  It won't be long before sporting events start and we want to be sure that you are fully informed.  There is also a calendar accessible from the Evans website that will help you keep track of all our scheduled events.
I hope everyone enjoys the weekend.  It looks like we will have some much needed relief from the heat.

COUNSELOR'S CORNER
Attention Evans Parents:
Are you  interested in helping your kids see the value in making good choices? Do you want to encourage them to "get on the right track?"

Well, we are taking a program called Why Try? school wide this year. Every student at Evans will take a ride on The Reality Ride which talks about problem solving and good decision making skills. It also focuses on the choices you have when you take the right track, and the lack of choices you have when you take the wrong track.

Feel free to visit the website for the program at  www.whytry.org.

Come take a ride with us on The Reality Ride on Thursday, September 16th at 6:00 in the library. You will get a sample of the lesson we will be teaching to all the students.

We hope to see you there.
